Mailen Avila-Verdecia, admissions assistant at Life Care Center of Sarasota, Florida, went beyond her normal job to assist a resident and her husband. The resident was a high fall risk patient and had dementia and fidgety, impulsive behavior. She also had trouble sleeping, which posed a safety risk at night. For three days and nights, the husband faithfully stayed with his wife to keep her safe....
Nancy Evans, licensed practical nurse at Life Care Center of Sarasota, Florida, kept in touch with a resident’s wife when the wife had to travel out of town for a week for their son’s funeral. Evans called her each night from her own cell phone to give her an update on her husband and then gave the phone to the resident so he could talk to his wife.

The Florida Health Care Association recently honored Nina Willingham, senior executive director at Life Care Center of Sarasota, with its highest achievement, the Walter M. Johnson Jr. Circle of Excellence Award.
The award was presented on Aug. 5, 2015, during FHCA’s Annual Conference in Orlando.
Nancy Magnuson, director of nursing at Life Care Center of Sarasota, Florida, received Life Care Centers of America’s 2015 Mary Denton service award on April 20, 2015.
The Mary Denton Award honors an individual who has provided the highest level of caring service to the residents of Life Care’s skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities. It is named for a former resident who was committed to welcoming new residents and making them feel at home.
