Nancy Magnuson, director of nursing at Life Care Center of Sarasota, Florida, received Life Care Centers of America’s 2015 Mary Denton service award on April 20, 2015.
The Mary Denton Award honors an individual who has provided the highest level of caring service to the residents of Life Care’s skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities. It is named for a former resident who was committed to welcoming new residents and making them feel at home.
“By her work and love, Nancy sets and lives the standard of what a great director of nursing should be,” said Beecher Hunter, Life Care president. “Her nursing skills, teaching capabilities and compassion bring healing, hope and inspiration to residents, their families and the staff she directs.”
Magnuson was honored during Life Care Centers of America’s Directors of Nursing Meeting, held at Life Care’s corporate headquarters in Cleveland, Tennessee.
“Nancy has achieved standards in our industry that are remarkable and very difficult to achieve,” said Tricia Nappo, regional director of clinical services.
Under Magnuson’s clinical leadership, Life Care Center of Sarasota has been deficiency-free on its last two annual state surveys, added a cardiac unit and achieved the highest ratings in quality measures. The facility has also been deficiency-free in nursing for the past four years.
“She truly has a passion for her residents and her staff,” Nappo added. “It is not unusual to catch Nancy working on a night shift so that she can personally have a relationship with her staff on all shifts.”
“I give all the glory to God,” Magnuson shared. “It is my pleasure to serve God by loving His children for Him, whether they be our patients and residents, their families, our visitors or my co-workers.”
Life Care also honored eight division Directors of Nursing of the Year and a Company-wide Director of Nursing of the Year.
Magnuson won the Company-wide Director of Nursing of the Year Award in 2012.
